Behold the Contender, the little truck that could. Although, little wouldn’t be the correct word. This thing punches way above its weight class in the medium-size pick up department. Resembling the Toyota Tundra, the Vapid Contender is all the truck you’ll ever need.

Power

It’s a bit sluggish upon delivery from Southern Autos but is woken up easily with few upgrades. It can easily keep up with, and surpass in some cases, most of the offerings in the muscle class. Launching relatively quickly, you’re engulfed in this smooth surge of power. We passed some things we really didn’t expect to, including the Comet…

Handling

It is quite surprising how capable this machine is around bends. It’s no Voltic by any means, but it has no problems holding its own. It comes from the factory with very street-oriented tires which allows things to get a little slippery off-road.

Off-Road

The Contender is very capable here. There’s plenty of low end torque to pull you out of the nasty stuff. The street tires do hold it back a bit though. Our test vehicle only got caught in the rough stuff once on our testing trail. Some designated off-road tires will help it through the soft gravel. There’s plenty of ground clearance and suspension travel, so scratching that pretty body shouldn’t be an issue.

The Looks

In a world full of box-like trucks, the Contender really stands out among the crowd. It manages to look aggressive while still carrying some curvature throughout the body work. It will be delivered in your garage with a truck bed cover which has the option to be removed. Plus, the fender flares make for a nice touch.

Value

Well…it certainly isn’t cheap. At a base price of $253,000, it’s by far one of the most expensive trucks in the game. It does undercut the Vapid Riata which starts at an eye-watering $380,000. However, being a full-size truck, it directly competes with the Vapid Sandking and Bravado Bison. These will cost you between 30 and 40 thousand dollars. But after all, can you really put a price on quality?

Conclusion

If you’re looking for a truck that can do it all, the contender is a perfect choice. Good looking, quick, and wonderful to drive. Just be ready to fork over a quarter of a million dollars to take delivery.
