There are two things in life that have always made me happy: food and cars. Both are enjoyable, both require a decent amount of thought to get a quality product, and both make more sense than most human beings. However, if you’re below the driving age, and all you ever think about is driving, then you must come up with some sort of way to entertain yourself. So, what should you do? Perhaps get yourself a job at the nearest golf course, and save up to your personal escape route, the Logitech G29.

The Steering Wheel
I’m not sure what material the old Logitech G27 was made from. I do know, however, that gripping that wheel for extended hours of play would result in a black substance being smeared all over your hands. Happily, that issue has been thoroughly resolved with the Logitech G29. The leather wrapped steering wheel fells welcoming to the touch and this time around you get a nice blue stripe in the center of the wheel. Why? Because race car. The wheel is secure to whatever surface fits your fancy with the traditional, what I call spin lockers on each side and getting the wheel locked in place is quite intuitive. The button layouts are where they should be and feel quite sturdy to the touch. Left and right triggers/buttons are now present on the wheel as well. This ensures the steering wheel and the controller have completely identical functions, minus the touch pad of course. The paddles are nothing short of smooth and precise to operate. Each pull accompanied by a comforting clicking sound that ensures you the paddle is operating at its finest. As with most Logitech wheels, it’s not without its Easter eggs. If you look at the back of the wheel, you’ll see the front fascia of a 2005 Ford Mustang. Whether or not you like the Ford brand, that’s cool.
The Pedals
Much like the steering wheel, the pedals return the same quality. The 3-pedal arrangement is finished in what looks to be stainless steel and are weighted accordingly. The accelerator offers the least resistance, followed by the clutch with a bit more resistance. The brake pedal here is very firm. The setup is extremely accurate and only enhances the experience. On the underside, you’ll find an array of locking points in different sizes and locations so that your pedal box can be secured to whatever you’re is suitable at the time. If you would like to have the pedals lying flat, Logitech has got you covered there as well. There’s a durable plastic, frayed strip that runs along the top of the underside of the pedal box. This ensures your pedal box will not be sliding anywhere under heavy breaking. Finally, you have the Logitech logo printed just below the brake pedal to remind you of the quality product you have just purchased.
The Shifter
Ah, another quality item from Logitech. The 6-speed shifter with reverse comes in a separate box. It feels heavy when you first take it out of the box. It’s finished in black with the Logitech logo at the base. It features the same two spin lockers on either side to secure it to your table. The shift boot is made of a soft material that feels nice in your hands. The shifter feel is a bit soft and reminds you of the cable shifters of today. There’s also a minor nuance here. When shifting into 1st, 3rd, and 5th, you receive a satisfying clicking noise with each gear engagement. However, the same cannot be said of shifting into 2nd, 4th, and 6th. I know this is a minor gripe, but when you’re spoiled with that satisfying click into first gear, it’s only fair to expect the same when snagging second.
Consensus
I love the Logitech G29. It’s a well built, accurate representation of driving. Now, you can pick one of these up in the mid $200 price range. That’s a bargain for any racing wheel with 3 pedals, 6-speed shifter with reverse, and that feels this nice to operate. The Logitech G29 is one of the finest pieces of gaming hardware on the market today.
